“Arizona Native,” you don’t hear that very often!
My name is Kayla Hyun and I am your 2017 Miss Arizona
International. I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Arizona.
You may often hear me say, “Go Warriors.” I had the honor
and privilege of attending the University of Hawaii, where I obtained my
bachelor’s degree in social work. Fast forward five years, and I now have my
master’s degree in social work and am doing what I love! I get the opportunity
to help children every day and couldn’t be more thankful. I am a school-based therapist at two schools
in the Peoria School District. Go Aztecs and Bengals!!
I also spend countless hours supporting StreetlightUSA, a
residential community for girls at-risk of or effected by sex trafficking and I
am a constant advocate for those effected by sex trafficking.
StreetlightUSA and my career are a huge part of me but there
is so much more to who I am. First and foremost, I have the most incredible
family. I am the oldest of four; I have a brother in the army, a sister in her
second year of college, and a brother finishing up high school. My parents are
my biggest fans and I would not be where I am today without their love and
support. Mom and dad, you rock!
“Let’s do four sets of ten reps!” If you know what I’m
talking about then you know I love the gym. Throughout my life, I have
struggled with my weight and spent the majority of my childhood overweight. I
am now able to say that I have lost over 50 pounds and have been able to keep
it off for the last two years. I now enjoy being a motivator and encourager for
others like myself that think that it is impossible to do because I know that you
are possible!
As Miss Arizona International 2017, I hope to encourage,
motivate, inspire, and help other young women be all that they can be. Remember
you are B-E-A-U-TIFUL!
